Restorative yoga - online with jeni Tuesdays at 7.15pm
Wind down at the end of your day and prepare for restful sleep in the comfort of your own home.
Restorative yoga allows the body and mind to completely let go in supported postures using blankets and bolsters. It is comforting, supportive, releasing and relaxing and activates the parasympathetic nervous system in the body. This is the system which counterbalances your stress response and it is in the parasympathetic state where healing takes place. In today's fast-paced world we often get 'stuck' in the 'flight or flight' mode. Restorative yoga offers the antidote to stress and has many benefits including reduction of high blood pressure and other stress-induced disorders. This is a lying practice and is suitable for absolutely everyone. Usually there are about 5 or 6 postures in the class, to give you time to deeply relax into each shape.
Benefits:
• Improves posture, circulation, blood pressure, and lower cholesterol levels.
• alleviates back, hip, and neck pain. This is because, much like visits to a chiropractor, it is good for achieving optimal alignment.
• improves cardiovascular and respiratory function.
• boosts the immune system.
• calms the nervous system by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows down heart rate and breath. This reduces the fight or flight response, essential for good mental health, clarity of mind, and ability to focus
• improves digestion and constipation by massaging the organs.
• decreases inflammation within the body and increase blood flow
• good for weight loss and it speeds up metabolism and reduces cortisol levels. High levels of cortisol are linked to storing excess fat, heart disease, and high blood pressure. This also makes it helpful for diabetes management
• improves cognitive function, including memory, concentration, and awareness.
• increases focus in daily life, allowing you to be more productive and efficient. It quiets the mind, allowing for mindfulness and preparation for meditation.
• boosts self-compassion and self-awareness
