Laura worked for many years as a treaty negotiator and senior policy advisor until significant health challenges forced her to abruptly change her life. Yoga and meditation were two of the tools she relied on heavily during her journey to wellness, and they taught her that in order to heal the body, you must also heal the mind and spirit.
Laura became a Hatha yoga instructor in 2010, and an iRest Yoga Nidra teacher-in-training in 2014. She is especially interested in the benefits of yoga and meditation as adjunct healing modalities for trauma, stress-related injuries, and chronic illnesses. Laura is one of only a handful or iRest teachers in Vancouver, and she is passionate about bringing these teachings to the just yoga community.
iRest® Meditation is a research-based transformative practice of deep relaxation and meditation. Developed by the American psychologist and yogi, Richard Miller, it is a modern adaptation of the ancient meditation practice of Yoga Nidra. Originally developed to support active duty and military veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress, iRest is now taught in a wide variety of settings around the world, including schools, homeless shelters, hospice, and yoga studios. It is especially helpful for anxiety, insomnia, depression, chronic and stress-related illnesses, or for anyone who wants to learn to settle an over-active nervous system.
