JY'S 40 DAY YOGA CHALLENGE!
Are you ready to break old habits and make positive changes in your life?
As we move into a new year often we take time to reflect on the old one, on the decisions and choices we made, and our impact on others. The turn of the year is a good time to consider objectives, set personal intentions for growth, and commit to changing negative thought and action patterns, ie habits. Regular yoga and/or meditation practice can enable you to break these habits and create new ways of thinking (see article on neural pathways), and therefore new ways of behaving or responding to situations, people etc. Yoga and meditation can help facilitate change because they help us penetrate the psyche to change our habit structure at a core level. Yogi Bhajan* says it takes 40 days to break a habit and 90 days to confirm it. We're helping to kickstart that process for you with our 40 day JY challenge.
What do I have to do?
More about how to break habits
Thousands of years ago yogis became aware that it is possible to improve one's life through changing one's habits. This seems like a simple concept, however, for most people it's a difficult challenge. Habits are repetitive behaviours which form specific patterns in our reality. There are of course positive and negative habits but if you have manifested habits which are not serving your highest good then why not try to change them?
There is a specific time commitment which is required to adjust the neurons and the frequencies of our brain. According to yogic technology it takes 40 days to change a habit – to retrain the mental process and nervous system. Practicing anything for at least 40 days allows you the opportunity to incorporate it into your being. Researchers believe that the brain does not accept ‘new’ data for a change of habit unless it is repeated each day for 40 days (without missing a day).
How would your life change by learning to break habits?
Can you imagine how differently you would think, feel and behave if you had a change of habit? You can't put a price on it. Habits take time and consistency to form in the first place. So if you are taking our challenge remember that manifesting change requires patience and baby steps. Choose a simple habit to change at first. Write your intention down along with your reasons for the change and keep it somewhere safe for 90 days. Specifically target the habit you’re trying to change and hold that intention in your mind during each class and throughout the day. Writing in a journal every day is a great way to reinforce your intention and to keep track of changes as they happen. After 40 days, look back and reflect on what's changed for you, if you're happy with your progress don't stop there, keep going. It takes 90 days to consolidate the change and make it permanent.
