"We live in a chronically exhausted, overstimulated world... (Yoga Nidra) is a systematic method of complete relaxation, holistically addressing our physiological, neurological, and subconscious needs." Rod Stryker.
What is iRest Yoga Nidra?
iRest Yoga Nidra is a guided form of meditation that provides a gentle and supported path into deep relaxation. It is especially effective for people who struggle to settle their minds during their meditation practice. The guided nature of iRest provides an anchor for the mind, which helps you let go of intrusive thoughts, and release into a very deep state of relaxation.
iRest was initially developed by Dr. Richard Miller, an American psychologist, from the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra, for use with veterans suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The US Department of Defence integrated it into their treatment plans for war veterans, following research carried out on its effect on PTSD. It has also been demonstrated that iRest Yoga Nidra also effectively reduces the symptoms of depression, anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, mild traumatic brain injury, and chemical dependency. More generally, it is a wonderful technique for coping with the stresses of daily life, building resilience, self-awareness, and self-regulation. Suitable for absolutely everyone. The practice is done lying comfortably.
What do I need for class?
Wear warm comfy, stretchable clothing - no jeans, belts etc. Socks are a good idea as you'll want to stay warm during the session.
For your first class please arrive 10-15 before the session starts to register at the desk - our front door is locked strictly on time at the start of class.
In class, you may use one of our by-donation mats or bring one of your own. We also have props & blankets available for you to use.
