FAQs - what do I need to get started in yoga?
Getting started at our studio:
We have everything you need to get started. If you have questions or concerns that aren't addressed below, email us, or arrive early to talk to the teacher. If you'd like to check out our studio before coming, we are open half hour before and after classes for you to pop in and take look around.
Beginners yoga: see our basics class - suitable for beginners and for those who wish to strengthen the foundations of their practice.
Class registration: you don't have to book for classes, you can just drop-in but do make sure you arrive at least 10 mins before the start and if it's your first time to the studio please allow for 15 mins before class. We close the front door two minutes before class is due to start. If you are late, we cannot guarantee that you will be allowed in. You can also register your info online to save time at the desk if it's your first visit.
Class sizes: our classes are always within manageability, which means that you will always receive support and attention when you need it. Average class sizes vary from 8 to 20 people with a maximum of 25 people.
we do have mats you can use and we ask for donations to keep them looking and smelling great, however, we do encourage you to buy your own mat as soon as you can for health & safety reasons (we sell eco mats in our front shop and can advise).
wear light, comfortable, stretchy clothing, yoga or exercise leggings, t-shirt or comfortable tops. No jeans, no belts, no socks during standing practices (unless they're yoga socks)!
we have one changing area and 2 washrooms (0ne is wheelchair accessible)
if you have health concerns, talk to your healthcare provider before starting yoga. Let us know if you have any medical conditions and, if you are pregnant, you must get permission from your doctor to participate and let us know in advance so that we can advise you on which classes to attend. Regular classes are generally not suitable for prenatal students in the 2nd or 3rd trimester or later.
don't eat at least one hour before class, longer if you are doing a strenuous style of class, drink plenty of water before, and after class. We have filtered water available onsite.
take it easy during class, yoga will teach you to understand yourself and your body's abilities better but always be mindful about not pushing yourself too far or trying to compete with others. This is a mind-body practice, so emotions often come up in class, this is natural and is a good thing! Don't be afraid to let it out, or talk to your teacher afterwards with a cup of our lovely hot tea.
- absolutely no cellphones! cellphones must be left in the changing area and switched OFF during class
- no heavy scents or perfumes, if you have pets, please try to make sure that your mat is allergen-free (we have mat cleaning solution)
- please be a few minutes early for class (earlier if you need to buy/renew your pass). Classes will start on time, and the front door locked one minute before, if you are late, you may not be allowed in
- if you are sick, please stay at home...and rest :-)
- no socks! practicing in socks is slippy and prevents you from moving naturally through the poses, keep your socks for the relaxation at the end
- no tea or china cups in the studio please
- we do encourage connection and talking to your fellow yogis, but please don't chat during class unless directed by the teacher or to ask for clarification. There is time after class to chat, mingle and drink tea!
Parking: if you must come by car, you can park after 5pm and at weekends in the car park behind the studio - see our parking page for info

Pregnancy: we do not currently have a specific prenatal class. Regular classes are generally not suitable for pregnant beginners or ladies nearing their second or third trimester. Please contact us for more advice on which classes are suitable for you.
